Monteverde is the perfect sanctuary for a great many Costa Rican flora and fauna. The high mountainous region is also perfect for growing coffee. 55 small coffee growers from Coopesanta Elena cultivate coffee in total harmony with the cloudforest, using shade trees and very little in the way of chemical fertilizers. What is more, Coopesanta Elena has consistently been very active in conservation and environmental protection, thanks to the sales of Café Monteverde. Through the Fair Trade certification, this coop implements a fair distribution of its incomes to its affiliated growers. |
